The worst for food ever and this is not the first time I go to an all inclusive resort. If you go a bit late to the buffet restaurant then you are doomed. They don’t keep the supply coming. Anyway lesson learned I was the fist one next day for lunch and to my surprise there was’nt much more than the day before.

The buffet is really not good try to avoid it as many times as you can. You are allowed to book the a la carte restaurants 3 times in a week. The booking is done at the reception of the hotel or by phone. They are a bit relaxed with the number of bookings in a week though but you will have to show up in person at the reception and try your charm and may be a tip.

Some Positive:
The beach was astonishing, very clean and lots of space. The rooms were always looked after.

The shows at night were very entertaining.

ACCOMMODATIONS: Very decent except for the lack of power showers. My hair is long and it took me a long tome to rinse it.

FOOD: Oohhh those crepes at the buffet restaurant were something from another world. Simply delicious.
Apart from that the food is pretty average a bit bland for my taste. If I had known I would have brought my hot sauces with me.

BEACH: Spectacular sand and great to swim in. If you walk a bit further away from the hotel beach you can find a complete isolated area and get naked if you wish so.

NIGHTLIFE: Dead

Dont go alone. This hotel is good for couples not singles.

Melia Las Dunas Hotel what can I say. I read first some reviews on Trip advisor before going ahead and confirm this hotel with my travel agent. Most of the reviews were positives and I ended up booking this hotel. There were others but the travel agent insisted this was the best hotel in Cayo Santa Maria so I decided to go by his suggestion.

The hotel it self looks very nice, beautiful gardens, impressive huge lobby, rooms are large and to a normal standard they are fairly clean.

The food not bad there was a good variety on the buffet reason why we did not bother booking a la carte restaurants which are free as well but you have to go to the reception and book it from there the day before and you are allowed 3 bookings if you stay a week.

What went wrong?

What the travel agent did not mention is that the hotel is jam packed with families each of them with about 10 kids. Really I am not exaggerating here. It was mission impossible to find a sun bed by the beach or swimming pools. These families had about 10 sun beds each and were not using even one.

I hated to seat my butt in the sand and then roast like a chicken everyday because I could not even find a shady place.

Ok, I know I am sounding like a grumpy old man and I apologize if I hurt someone’s feelings.

My point is if you don’t like resorts full of kids then do not go to this hotel cause you are going to be running into them every minute.

Apart from that everything was nice.

Cayo Santa Maria is a very nice and unspoiled beach area my only regret was not to have stayed at Melia Cayo Santa Maria instead of Melia Las Dunas Hotel.

We have just arrived from our trip to Cayo Santa Maria in Cuba. We stayed at Melia Las Dunas Cayo Santa Maria.
For the Cuban standard the Melia Las Dunas is a formidable hotel. Since the arrival to the resort the attention of the personnel was superb in every moment.

We did find though that the room we were given was not very clean I don’t know what happened with whoever was supposed to set the room ready for us but whatever it was he/she did not do a very good job. We complained immediately at the reception of the hotel and in less than ½ hour we were in a new room with all our luggage. The remainder of our stay went on without any problems whatsoever .The food is good, stupendous personnel, impressive beach… we really had a good time.

I do not share some of the bad reviews that you can find in trip advisor. My recommendation is if you go to Cuba don’t keep your expectations to high and you will be surprised.

If I had to highlight just one good thing about this hotel it would be the super friendly and super efficient members of the staff.

We have just come back from our holidays to Cuba and I felt compelled to give my review about Melia Las Dunas Cayo Santa Maria. My Husband and I spent a week from the 1st Jan 2009.

This was our first stay in an all-included type of hotel and we have travelled a lot in the past 5 years.

Melia Las Dunas is definitely good value for money. The rooms, the pools, the gardens, the lobby are all very pretty and clean, this is a fairly new hotel so everything looks very tidy.

Let me start by saying that you do not go to Cuba for the food. The buffet offers a good assortment of fruits, salads, pastas, pizzas and fish. The best thing is to book yourself in any of the a la carte restaurants. That is the good treat. Although the hotel only allows you to book 3 nights in a week depending on the period they are very flexible with this. The food was above our expectations. We went there expecting nothing even decent enough. I am glad to say we were wrong.

Bear in mind that this hotel is huge and you could spend about 1 hour walking every day within the installations of the hotels which is good if you want to burn few calories.

We spend a few increible days , the weather was marvelous, a lot of sun and a smooth and pleasant breeze. The hotel Melia Las Dunas Cayo Santa Maria is very appealing to the eye, above all the loby and the gardens, the rooms are very spacious, the beach is precious, and above all would emphasize the service, the waiters are charmers and very helpful (sometimes too much) the team of animation super, the nocturnal spectacles are genial.

The food, you can elect among the restaurants specialized, Italian, romantic and Creole or the buffet, that have of all, besides there is a hamburguer snack-bar, and another type bocatas and pizza available throughout the day.If you get the munchies halfway through the afternoon there is plenty of snacks available.

In the beach there is a waiter constantly passing and asking you if you desire to drink something.

In higine I give it 10/10 ,as this all full of gardens, they decorate it all with fresh flowers, the tables, the baths, all. Also we had the opportunity to do snorquel, doing an excursion in catamaran, you spend a very amusing day, it bearing a grudge, and in the hotel can book bicycles or motorcycles to approach a nearby beach . For my some unforgettable holidays, with the cuban people that their special charm. Oh! and in November zero mosquitos
